All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.
(II Tim 3:16)
Lesson 7: Preparing the way - The Old Testament
In the Old Testament we find recorded how God has, through the history of humankind, prepared the way for the coming of Christ. In these stories we find examples of a dynamic faith involving works and obedience. We see how difficult it is for men and women to to overcome their self-centered passions that lead them to ignore God, and engage in all kinds of wickedness. There were the Judges, then Kings, and Prophets who warned the people to be obedient, and who foretold of the coming of a Savior.
Orthodox fathers look at the Old Testament as prefiguring and pointing to the coming of Jesus Christ.
